Custom Handcrafted Decorative Wooden Book Boxes

Book Boxes are boxes that are made to the specific book the box is meant to hold. These boxes are typically purchased for those very special books - either because of age or meaning. 'Very Special Books' include very rare or antique books, family bibles, wedding or baby photo albums, a book received from a very special person. Also when giving a book as a gift, including a custom book box would really add importance to the book and the gift.

Our handcrafted book boxes are typically custom made and, like all of our decorative wood boxes, book boxes have the distinctive box-joint corners - structurally superior and adds a decorative accent. Wood book boxes usually have hinged lids and are handmade just slightly larger than the book the box is to hold. Additional space may be needed if the book is old, rare or fragile so that the edges do not get caught during the removal of the book. In order to ease the removal of the book, we can install a ribbon book lift. A wide ribbon is attached on the hinged side of the box and goes under and back up the other side of the book. By lifting on the lift ribbon, the book is gently raised from the box enough to safely remove the book.

The wooden book box shown was custom made to hold an 1875 World Atlas that was to be given as a special gift. It was made of solid book-matched Walnut - the wood, hand-selected for its wonderful coloring and grain. It had decorative antique hinges, a sculpted finger lid lift, decorative ribbon book lift, felt pads on the lid and felt feet.
